Part Numbers & Alternative Supplies for Triumph TRs

Ok so we all would like to save a few quid on parts. Many of the parts used on the TRs have been sourced from other cars and may well be cheaper from suppliers outside the TR world.

 

One of the most common of these that has prompted me to publish this page are Bosch fuel pump conversions for the TR 5/6.

A few years ago most of the TR specialists flogged a Bosch fuel pump as a direct replacement for the Lucas original. Generally these were relatively trouble free but there were a few problems as the Bosch pump doesn’t like to suck through the original Lucas CAV filter. The Bosch pumps were originally designed to be mounted below the level of the fuel tank and with the fuel filter on the outlet (high pressure side of the pump). So now most of the TR specialists sell a complete kit comprising the pump, filter and necessary pipe work. These tend to sell for around £280 plus VAT. When one considers that the pump can be purchased from a Bosch agent for as little as £75 to £80, the filter costs less than £15 and the appropriate high pressure fuel pipe and unions just a few quid there is clearly an incentive to buy the parts yourself. A number of the suitable pumps can even be obtained from scrap yards – it’s just a case of knowing the right part numbers.
