Meeting notes

We’re still producing TRipe under “difficult” circumstances (son and daughter-in-law still in residence in our office) so, yet again, apologies for the lateness.  Have to say that we’ve also tasted the delights of Normandy and Brittany this month.  We hope you understand.

By the way, Andy’s brother now has a fabulous gite ready for use.  We know from first-hand experience - it’s where we stayed.  It can sleep 8-10 (12 at a push) and it’s just over an hour from Le Mans.

Holland trip

We haven’t had a full report from anyone yet.  Tim Sharp has promised us one which we will include next month so please do email it to us.

In the meantime, Terry has sent an email out with some brief notes and some smashing pics:

Hull to Rotterdam was our preferred route, as looked as if we could

walk to the venue from the port, as I am very keen to try and  minimise fuel costs.

We met up with John and Helene Dennison of the Wharfedale Group, and

Martin and Lynne Hill of the Red Rose group. Had a few beers and then

staggered to bed. Sue blamed the ocean swell.

I forgot to mention that we were last on the boat as we were delayed, this was to become a routine for the return as well.

Rotterdam - after a good breakfast, we set off for Gouda and encountered our  first Carillon of the day. Until now we had only been aware of the one in Loughborough. The Dutch must love them as every town features them.

Can you hear me mother?!!!!

We “hear” that air horns were the flavour of the month from the Holland trip.  Colonel Bogie might well have to watch out.

Lake District trip

According to Phil, there were 85 cars this year.  The weather was good.  He went on Friday and came back on Sunday.

Smashing report Phil.  Thanks loads.  Have you thought of journalism?!!!

Goodwood Revival

Some of the members attending this event were staying in the comfort of B&B and some were more hardy and camped.  Split in the camp or are we just getting older?! L

EJ Ward Open Day

Firstly, many thanks to Martin & Jenny Ward for opening their house for coffee and biscuits.  We had a very pleasant hour there before moving off to John and Mick Ward’s.

It was the first time I’d ever been able to see across the floor of their workshop but that homely, welcoming feel was still there.

There was a BBQ, cars for sale on show and was well attended by LTRG members.

Mileage competition

This is still running.

Irene’s 21st Party

Could someone please do us a write up for next month.  Ta J

Last run

29th October to Norfolk.  Details to be finalised at October’s meeting.  Suggestions are Fish n Chips on Wells seafront or Mussel Fest at Andy & Claire’s.

TR Register AGM

19th November, Gaydon.  Details are in TR Action.

This should be a lively one if all those who say they are going actually turn up.

Christmas dinner

The last Saturday in January (27th) at Kibworth Working Men’s Club.

It has been stressed that there is to be NO “silly string”. All other party ammo’ is permitted.  Sadly, one or two people had their clothes marked and it is the very devil to clean up.  Thanks.

More details of menu, etc nearer the time.

As I was tidying up …

A little ”trick of the trade” to hone your driving skills taken from “The Autocar Handbook 1904 - a Guide to the Motor Car”, an article on braking.

Both brakes should be tested soon after starting out on a run.  If the car shows a disposition to get away when coasting down a hill, the clutch should be let in gently with the ignition switched off or the throttle quite closed.  This will serve to limit the speed of the car.  Broadly speaking, and in a general way, the brakes should be applied as little as possible.

One sometimes sees a car come dashing up to its destination, and pulling up in a few yards.  This only shows the driver has more control over the machine than he has over himself.”

Good grief!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
