Meeting
notes
“The Best TR Group in
the World”
Ruth
started the meeting in the usual tradition.
She was chairing this month because Martin W and a huge number of other LTRGers were in
At
one point, Ben did phone his father to check the Italian contingent were all OK
and had arrived in one piece. Although
the connection was really poor, we could all hear Martin W loud, albeit not
clear! In fact, we could still hear him
after Ben thought he’d ended the call J
It
sounded as though some fun was had on the way to
New members
We
were fortunate to have two new members join our ranks this month - Huw and Barry. We
did warn them our meetings are usually as “select” and “genteel”. Hope they realised we weren’t joking or
they’ll get a huge shock when they turn up for the October meeting!
Welcome
chaps. You’ve joined ( all join in
now …) “The Best TR Group in the World”
Front page headlines …
By
the way … the 18 of us who attended the meeting in September will fully
understand the front cover this month.
For those of you who missed it, for whatever reason .........
The
pub had obviously decided not to upset us again and had warmed the room up
beautifully for us (best its ever been) and had even kindly set it up just like
a … Hmmm. How did Ruth describe it? Ah yes - a Prayer Meeting. Needless to say, we pulled a selection of
sofas and chairs into a (sewing?!!) circle at the back and had our meeting in
some considerable comfort.
Maybe
it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Martin W to give the pub a quick bell before the
next meeting to let them know how much we appreciated the warmth of the room
but that we prefer a rather more “normal” pub layout complete with tables? Over to you Martin!
Activity in the previous month
As
with the meeting, it had been a quiet month with very little to report. Or so Ruth said. However, the notes that follow would rather
disagree.
Lakes Weekend
Phil
and Sam Gunn went to the Lakes Weekend and had a wonderful time as usual. Apparently, the weather was particularly kind
to them and there were 80+ cars. This is
a very successful event and one which doesn’t need advertising.
Phil
did mention something about Coniston Water but what he was saying rather
disappeared beneath a domestic between him and Rachael about when he’d visited
it last. I did hear something about him
visiting the launch place of Bluebird but I’m not at all sure if that was this
time or the time Rachael was telling him he’d been on a previous occasion!
Mid-month meeting
Around
10 of us went along to the Harboro Hotel in Melton
Mowbray on 12th September and had a great evening with smashing
food. Andy and I managed to park a
pavement’s width from the front door but the others had to battle a challenging
route round the back of the hotel for the official car park. Well done all of you - Cub Scout Finders
badges winging their way to you J
Donington - See Red
This
was, apparently, an excellent event, again with plenty of sunshine. There weren’t too many people which meant
that you weren’t fighting with crowds the whole time. You could go into the pits for a nose round. There were four TRs racing and a great mix of
other cars.
Sunday 14th October
The Fox Run
This coming Sunday, 14th
October, 11am start
To
date, there are well over 30 cars booked to do the 73 mile run which covers
three counties (Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland) and some
incredibly pretty countryside. I believe
there are still a few contacting Andy even now wanting to join in.
We
are keeping everything crossed for good weather.
Dick? Help!! Please!!!
It
kicks off with coffee at The Fox Inn in our village of Wilbarston
and ends up back at the same place with a fabulous hot buffet. I’ve heard talk of chilli, jacket potatoes
and other goodies. Yum.
And,
of course, you are welcome to ours for a coffee afterwards if you wish. Or even before if you get to the village way
before 11am. We will probably leave home
at 10.30am (10 Rushton Road. Turn at the shop into Main Street which turns
into Rushton Road at the little crossroads, Andy
07725 056653, Jennie 07989 533389).
Entertainment
Rachael
told us her excellent amateur dramatics group is putting on Little Shop of
Horrors 23rd to 27th October at its usual venue of
Loughborough Town Hall. Please contact
her if you’re interested in a ticket. LTRGers usually go on the Friday evening.
The Last Word - well nearly!!
Just
a bit of fore-warning. Andy and Jennie
will be resigning at the November AGM so if anyone out there fancies a spell of
producing TRipe please be prepared to speak up at the
AGM in November.
